“The international voice calling app,” Ringo, as it is commonly known was launched in India on Wednesday January 14, 2015. The amazing thing with this app is the fact that it does not need internet connections and neither does it need voice minutes. Most important to note is that, the app first came to the public when it was launched for 16 countries in May 2014. Today, users in India can easily download the app for iOS, Android and Windows Phones and use it to make cheap calls they never made before.
The Ringo app is very unique in the way it works without the need for internet data to execute its functions. The conventional OTT voice apps are known to use Wi-Fi, internet data and carrier minutes. The way Ringo app works is similar to when a person makes a call through their carrier on grounds of quality. Amazingly, it only costs 70 percent way below the ordinary rates as offered through a majority of telecoms. These views were echoed by the Ringo app manufacturer in a statement.
If anyone wants to make calls using Ringo app, he or she would be required to have a Ringo account created on his or her device and deposit between Rs. 25 and Rs. 250 to what is known as a Ringo wallet. The app is manufactured to spontaneously sync all the contacts in a user’s phone and then link a country flag along with the per minute call cost set against the contact.
According to the company representative, the Ringo app prices offered are cheaper than those of Airtel’s ISD or Vodafone’s rates of call in India by about 70 percent. When compared to Viber and Skype for quite a number of destinations, the Ringo app is said to be almost 20 percent cheaper. Taking a perfect example of Indian consumers, the company asserted that, the rates to call landlines or mobiles in China, US and Canada would be Rs 1.08 per minute.
The company said that the Ringo app makes use of an exceptional call flow to alter international calls into local ones. When someone uses the Ringo app in India to contact somebody abroad, it spontaneously dials out a local call to the user and a different local call to the user abroad and link up the two through a dependable and steady carrier circuits.
The Ringo app Chief Executive Officer reiterated that, the app will bring an immense change in the manner in which India will communicate to the world, both at present times and in the times to come. The company was prompted to come up with such a solution to address India’s challenges of having a reliable internet connection with a capacity to support VoIP calling. This is believed to be a real time solution for Indian users who want to make international calls cheaply in an effort of reaching out to their friends and family living overseas. Ringo app’s approach is a perfect example of a world that continues to evolve technology-wise.
